Risk of cleaning your roof with sodium hydroxide solution

You might have just noticed parasites and mold feasting slowly on your roof top and are trying to find a solution of the problem as soon as it is possible. The growth of a significant amount of microbes and parasite infestation indicate that truly your roof needs a lot of cleaning. Seek the help of a professional roof expert or you can always do the hard work yourself.

Out of several methods used to get rid of the mold, one commonly used method is to apply sodium hydroxide solution to the infested roof. However it is not a good method as it needs to be rinsed thoroughly which can damage the roofing material as well. It may require pressure up to 100 psi to rinse the chemical off the roof but the pressure is enough to wash the granules in asphalt roof away with it. There are a couple of television and radio advertisements claiming that hydrogen peroxide solutions are safe to you, but they are still toxic. Make sure your hydrogen peroxide wash won’t come in contact with people, your pets and even your plants. Moreover, hydrogen peroxide washes can be quite corrosive and these residues may damage your roof.
